A Quiet Beginning to a Big Yes

The start of a new year always feels like a quiet invitation to begin again, and for me, this one marks an especially meaningful chapter. This year, I’m officially stepping into wedding photography—telling love stories in a way that feels intentional, intimate, and true. This courthouse wedding session, followed by timeless portraits at Rice University, reflects exactly the kind of weddings I’m excited to take on: honest moments, thoughtful locations, and celebrations that focus on what truly matters—the connection between two people.

Rubi and Joe Yerena are the kind of couple whose love feels both steady and deeply genuine. I first witnessed their story unfold a few summers ago, watching the quiet way they chose one another, supported one another, and grew side by side. Seeing that love bloom into what it is now—rooted in faith, kindness, and commitment—was incredibly special. As wonderful children of God, Rubi and Joe lead with love not only toward each other, but toward everyone they hold close, making their union feel as meaningful as it is beautiful.

An Intimate “I Do” at the Courthouse

Their courthouse wedding was intimate in the truest sense—quiet, personal, and full of warmth. The judge welcomed us into his office with genuine kindness, instantly putting everyone at ease. He guided Rubi and Joe through the ceremony with care, showing them exactly where to stand and even taking a moment to help me find the best angles for photographs. That thoughtfulness turned a simple courthouse ceremony into something incredibly special, allowing the focus to remain on their vows, their joy, and the love filling the room.

Capturing Love on Rice University’s Iconic Grounds

Booking Rice University for wedding portraits was a smooth and straightforward process, all handled online ahead of time. There are two required fees: a photography permit pass, which is valid for the entire year, and the individual session date and time slot—both costing $50 each. Once we arrived on campus, there wasn’t an official check-in location that I could find, but I kept the emailed permission slip easily accessible just in case. Lovett Hall is the most popular and photographed area on campus, so I recommend parking nearby to save time and energy—just note that paid parking is required. Inside the university, everything felt quiet and grand, with beautifully maintained grounds and soft, natural light throughout. Even with just an hour for portraits, moving from spot to spot felt effortless, and we never once felt rushed.

This intimate courthouse wedding and Rice University portrait session perfectly captured the beginning of Rubi and Joe’s married life together. From the warmth and guidance of the judge to the quiet grandeur of Rice’s campus, every moment felt intentional and full of love. It was such an honor to witness their story, document their connection, and see a love rooted in faith, kindness, and joy shine so brightly. Sessions like this remind me why I’m so excited to step into wedding photography this year—helping couples celebrate their love in a way that’s authentic, meaningful, and unforgettable.
